Which electric car to choose in 2025?
2025 looks like it will be a good year for electric vehicles (EVs). With battery life increasing, financial incentives to purchase an EV remaining an established & growing network of charging stations and falling prices, buying an EV has never made more sense.
Autofestival 2025, which takes place from 25th January to 3rd February, is the perfect opportunity to discover the latest models and make an informed choice. This article will help you better understand the essential factors to consider before buying an EV.
Autofestival 2025, which takes place from 25th January to 3rd February, is the perfect opportunity to discover the latest models and make an informed choice. This article will help you better understand the essential factors to consider before buying an EV.
The key EV trends in 2025
1. A booming market
Sales of electric vehicles continue to grow rapidly. In 2024, sales rose by 25% worldwide*, to a new record of over 17 million vehicles. Forecasts for 2025 confirm this upward path.
In Luxembourg, almost 40% of new registrations in 2024 were EVs or plug-in hybrids, a figure that could rise to 50% this year thanks to improved affordability.

2. Luxembourg has become one of the countries with the highest density of charging stations
Luxembourg boasts a remarkable density of public charging stations for EVs, with more than 2,000 across the country.
The Chargy network, launched in 2017, comprises more than 700 charging stations, each equipped with two chargers, located in public car parks, park-and-ride areas (P+R) and along the main motorways.
To meet the needs for rapid recharging, the country has also deployed 88 SuperChargy charging stations, enabling electric vehicles to be recharged from 20% to 80% in just 15 to 45 minutes (up to 320 kW).
3. Government incentives extended until 2026
In October 2024, Luxembourg renewed its programme of incentives for the purchase of electric vehicles.
The maximum amount has been revised to €6,000 for vehicles consuming up to 160 Wh/km and to €3,000 for those consuming between 161 and 180 Wh/km (or up to 200 Wh/km for models with a power output of 150 kW or less).
These incentives are available until 30 June 2026.
4. Prices down sharply
Not only have most existing models seen their prices fall by around 10% in one year, but new models are coming to market with introductory prices under €20,000. A price that is (finally) more affordable for private individuals.
At the beginning of this year, vehicles such as the Citroen e-C3 and the Renault 5 electric have joined the MG4, Fiat 500e and Dacia Spring in the group of affordable city cars.
The new Chinese brands, which are becoming increasingly numerous, and offer a range of models in their product range that could be very popular with customers with limited budgets. These include the Leapmotor T03, the BYD Dolphin, the Seres E1 and the Ora Funky Cat.
The basic version of all these cars is available for less than €20,000. Tesla is the only producer that is no longer positioned in this segment and has even announced that it is abandoning development of the Model 2.
5. Ever greater range
The range of EVs continues to improve, with the most recent models now reaching between 500 and 700 km. This progress has been made possible by high-energy density batteries, such as those using innovative materials like lithium-iron-phosphate. Compact models, designed for use in urban areas, often have a range of 250 to 400 km, enough for everyday journeys.
Recharging times have also been reduced, thanks in particular to the expansion of high-power charging stations. This infrastructure enables some models to be recharged to 80% in less than 20 minutes, eliminating one of the main barriers to the adoption of EVs.
mobilé, insurance wholly adapted to electric vehicles
Once you’ve chosen which vehicle, it’s crucial to protect your investment with car insurance that’s tailored to your car and its particular features, especially the batteries, a central and costly component.

- Assistance if the battery is completely out of power
Conclusion: a year to find the right model
2025 is a pivotal year for electric vehicles, with a wide choice to meet every need. Also as every year, the Autofestival is the perfect opportunity to explore new models, test drive vehicles and take advantage of professional advice.
The event can also give you information on tax incentives, financing options and technological innovations, making the decision-making process easier and more transparent.
Before making your choice, assess your needs in terms of range, usage and budget, also the financial aid that is available. With an increasingly competitive offer, it’s now possible to find a model that combines performance, durability and an attractive price.
